Sophia Pedrys, BIRTH DOULA, PHOTOGRAPHER
Hi, my name is Sophia, and I am a birth doula and birth photographer.
I knew I was meant to be in birth work after having my son. I wanted so badly to have a low intervention, unmedicated, hospital birth but that was not the path that we ended up on. I know I did the best with the resources I had, but ultimately felt like I was not heard, did not have options, and was not provided with the information required to give my informed consent. I was determined to have my next be different. Then I had my 2020 baby. Again, I went in wanting a low intervention, unmedicated, hospital birth but, due to the circumstances, was surrounded by people in hazmat suits. The information, choices, and attention my family and I needed were not the priority and, once again, I felt unheard without options or emotional support.
This is why I went into this work. I wish my husband and I had someone that knew birth, whose priority was our family, to help us advocate for ourselves. I wish I had someone that emotionally, physically, and informationally supported me. I want to be that for other families, so that your birth experience is the one you are hoping for. Whether it goes exactly as planned or not, you should feel informed, heard, and supported.
About Me: I live in a small town outside of Ann Arbor on a couple of acres with my husband, two kids, and two big dogs. I am more holistic focused, have a strong faith, and love a good suspense novel.
