ANN ARBOR LACTATION SUPPORT SERVICES

This is highly focused, specialized, and intensive postpartum care within the first week to help set you up for success with breastfeeding.

This support includes 3 visits:
Your first visit is while you’re in the hospital to see two feedings. The first feeding is for education on a good latch and how to keep it. The second feeding allows you to practice with a coach nearby. This visit lasts four hours.

The second visit is in your home either the first or second overnight. This will help you practice your skills in your own setting and set you up for success once your coaching package is complete. This is an eight hour overnight shift.

The third visit is ideally after your first pediatrician appointment. We review how they evaluated your baby and if there are any feeding supports that need to be adjusted. This is a four-hour session.

This service is for everyone planning to breastfeed, including: first-time parents who are truly committed to breastfeeding exclusively for the first 2-6 months, and families who had challenges previously, want more skilled lactation support, and would like a different experience.

Yes! If your goal is to be supported physically and emotionally through establishing a breastfeeding relationship with your baby, then this is definitely for you. Doulas are trained in normal breastfeeding support but they do not have the advanced skillset and training that our lactation coach has obtained. This support also runs seamlessly with our other services so you receive the continuity of care that we know sets you up for success!

No, this package is designed to set real expectations for the initial breastfeeding relationship building and to educate you on what the first month will look like.

If your coach notices there are real challenges anatomically with your baby or with your body, then they will refer out to a local IBCLC with whom we collaborate care. Families find it helpful to have this support so they know if they need to take the next step in breastfeeding support.
