Why Doula Care
My greatest accomplishment in life, and the most important work I have ever done, is to be a mom. It’s true that you not only love your children, you fall in love with them. It is because of that love that I been lead to my passion, helping empower women during the childbearing year. I am extremely passionate about helping a woman have the kind of birth she desires. I work with families to help them achieve their goals during labor and birth as well as have a healthy, gentle start into parenthood.
I have been a birth doula since 1999, after my first daughter was born. I knew there had to be a better way than the ‘fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants’ birth experience I had. As a holistic nutrition educator and Herbal Medicine for Women herbalist, I find myself counseling and working with women of all ages who want natural ways to have babies, to nurse and raise them and even to balance their hormones as they transition to the wisdom years. Many of us just don’t know where to start because there is so much to learn! In response to that, I began supporting families as a childbirth educator with the Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth – empowering and educating families to take control of their health and to make informed, educated decisions. I help make this entire process so much easier!
“A dedicated advocate – professional, supportive, caring, and calm.
“Having had the pleasure of Jodi being our doula was extremely beneficial in creating a labor and delivery to our expectations. Before my labor, she provided valuable educational information that was accurate, relevant and meaningful regarding pregnancy and childbirth. During my labor, when there were endless medical decisions to be made in a time when I was exhausted and overwhelmed, she guided me as I made decisions that were best for me. In active labor, she was by my side holding my leg and letting me squeeze her hand during those pushes! After labor the support continued, thank you Jodi!

In my free time, you might find me on the mat in Savasana pose, kayaking in the lakes near our home or taking long walks on the hiking trails in Livingston County with my family!
As your birth doula, I will meet with you 1-3 times before your labor to get to know you better, discuss your ideas and desires for birth and to help you formulate your wishes into a birth plan. I will be with you in labor to help you make your experience the best one possible and will help you get started with breastfeeding. I will also check back in on you and visit you in your home to make sure you’re adjusting well to your new role and, of course, admire your baby! If you need a little extra help with the transition, I am also available for postpartum care.
If you are interested in my birth or postpartum doula services, or childbirth classes please contact me to learn more.
As an herbalist I also offer custom herbal baths, tinctures and professional consults before, during and well after the childbearing year. >> Contact me to learn more.
